I know it's almost April Fool's Day but this is NO joke!

hello all! I hope that this beautiful weather has you all in great spirits and ready for spring! I know I am! I am ready to get outside and get in my yard so that everything I plant will die in a month because I have the biggest black thumb imaginable...I killed an IVY for crying out loud! BUT there is hope for me... I am hoping that with all this new time I will have to myself that I can learn a lot more about gardening and plants, and may actually remember to water occasionally. You are thinking what...what time off? Well, that brings me to this bit of VERY exciting news... I have SOLD my store! Yes, for real...no joke, as of April 1st ( how appropriate, seeing as I opened it on Friday, October 13th) the familiar face you have come to know and love...Kandice Wadsworth, my friend and employee who has stood by me through it all, will be the NEW owner of MORGANDAVIS Stationery! It really shouldn't come as a surprise that she would be the logical choice to take over. After all, she has been printing, buying, and basically running the store for the last year and has worked here for the last 4 years! We are both so excited for each other! I am so excited to get my "life" back, at the thought of a real lunch break, time with my friends ( if I still have any...I have been so disconnected for 5 years), a vacation with Chris, who might be the most excited about this idea, HEB at a reasonable hour, not having my cell phone attached to my hip, not having people call me at home to come open the store because they just HAD to have something, hahaha, you know who you are and I love you BUT.... I'm ready for a change! I hope that you will continue to support Kandice the way you have supported me and been loyal to this store. She truly LOVES our customers ( even more than I do) and I have no doubt you will all love the store even more! She is going to remain a paper store but does plan to add more gift and other great finds! I have always said I have THE best customers and I mean that. Thank You, Thank You, Thank You, for sharing your lives with me, through the good times and the bad. Through the emotional roller coaster events like your child's high school graduation, Bridezilla moments, to pregnancy hormones, to lost loved ones, and everything in between! I have learned so much from all of you and I have learned so much about people and life and most of all about myself! Thanks again for letting me be a part of your lives, I have LOVED every minute! Stay tuned for updates...maybe in 6 more months we will post on here again...sorry about that, there just aren't enough hours in the day!

Rudeness...I'm Over It!

I am writing this on the heels of what started out to be a GREAT day until.... a VERY rude customer came into the store. I love 99% of my customers but man that 1% of the PITA (pain in the ass) ones are enough to make me throw my hands up and say forget it, and walk away from having this store! I really do love most of my customers, most are local, faithful, and we have developed great relationships over the years. My store is unique in that we live in a VERY small town and so here everyone really has to be nice or everyone in town talks about them, including us! Well, today we were busy rearranging the store when this lady who has never been in the store comes in. We, kandice, Lindsey and myself stop what we are doing to help her. We find her what she is looking for and I proceed to the register, this is where things get really ugly! The register was not plugged in, Lindsey had just moved it and was hooking it back up, so I said no problem we can still ring you up. I totalled her bill and by mistake I thought she said she had the change so I opened the cash drawer and gave her $2.00 back well instead she only had the .01 so I when I realized what had happened I said oh excuse me, I apologize I gave you too much change and I went to take the other dollar back. The customer says to me, It's just math, in a very sarcastic tone. I said, excuse me what did you say? She said it's just math, you know the thing that nobody can do anymore because machines do it for you! Can you believe that??????? I was floored, absolutely appalled that she would even say that! I stood there totally shocked and all that I could say was you know what have a super great day! Then of course after she left a million other things I would have loved to have said to her came to my mind like, yeah lady math went right out the door with manners! What I really wanted to do was run after her car and throw her money at her and take my beautiful Thank you cards back and tell her to #%$* off but I didn't I just stood there at the door to my store and thought why the hell do I even bother when customers ( although they are few and far between) act like this. So it begs the question,...what would you have done? How would you have handled it...what would you have said? Here's to hoping that tomorrow is a better day!

Too Busy to blog is a good thing!

Yes, we are still here, still in business and fortunately we have been busier than ever this time of year for graduation! So, as I have been told over and over by my customers...Being too busy to blog is a good thing Morgan! I am GRATEFUL for the business because I realize that many businesses aren't busy enough! Now that I am finally catching up on orders and have an amazing summer employee to help share some of the load, I will hopefully have more time to dedicate to my very neglected blog! Stay tuned and I promise my next post won't take so long!

What does a lot of elbow grease, a lot of work and tiny budget get you?

We have a new sign now...this one was only a temporary banner.
When the spring comes again and it's not so doom and gloom outside,
I'll post a more recent photo.
Would you just look at these floors! Who knew under all that paint was this! I don't believe I have ever properly thanked my friend Jody's dad, Jack for all of his hard work. He actually listened to me and was able to create my vision and stay within the shoe string budget I gave him! I LOVE YOU JACK!
Jon Hart...one of my most favorite companies to carry and it's all because
I LOVE my rep, Jimmy!
Can you believe in the beginning he had the nerve to tell me NO,
I couldn't carry it! HA...best darn decision he ever made, right Jimmy?
Whoever said the grass isn't greener on the other side...
didn't look at the before pictures!
A lot of water, some dirt, and a really good gardener,

This is what we started with

Everyone thought that I had lost my mind...for a second I thought I had too!
I have ALWAYS loved this building! It's one of the oldest ones in our town and referred to quite often as the Alamo because of the shape on the front of the building. In fact when I was looking for space to start my store I had called about this one, but it was not available. After being in business 2+ years the opportunity finally came knocking to make the move to "Main Street" and I just couldn't refuse. I also couldn't refuse the chance to make this building what I knew it could be...again. All it needed was LOT'S of LOVE, well that and LOT'S of PAINT, a SANDER to get through 5 layers, YES 5 layers of badly painted floors, (hunter green, yuck, burgundy, double yuck, black, beige, and I believe someone tried to get "creative" with a rug design in some other awful color),
a CEILING, and the list goes on and on!
It's still a work in progress but every old house is.

Who say's you can't teach an old dog new tricks?

I hear you, I hear you! My customers and friends ask me daily it seems, when will you ever start a blog? Well, I figure I have fought the fight long enough and so here I am...finally starting a blog for my stationery store, cleverly named after myself...Morgan Davis Stationery. Can you believe I actually had to pay someone to come up with that for me? Never in a million years would I have been so bold as to name my store after myself, but they liked my name and it stuck! I have had my store here in my hometown of Fredericksburg, Texas since 2006, Friday, October the 13th of 2006 to be exact...can you say, Devil I am not afraid of you or your superstitions and I'm going to beat you at this game!? Well, it has certainly been an adventure and everyday is a new one...so as long as I continue to wake up and LOVE what I do I'll keep doing it. I LOVE my customers, they are what have kept me coming back day after day. It is because of them that I can continue to live my dream everyday. So, for my loyal customers and friends this blog is for you! Stay tuned and be patient...I haven't quite figured this blogging thing out yet but as soon as I do we are going to have a lot of FUN and I promise to post a lot of pictures of the our cool papers and stuff!
